United States - Set of Two WWI Medals

This set includes two historically significant medals commemorating the service and sacrifices of U.S. soldiers during World War I. Both medals represent the valor, dedication, and immense contribution of the United States during the Great War.

1. World War I Victory Medal:

  • Obverse:

    • Features a relief of Goddess Nike ("Winged Victory"), holding a sword and shield, symbolizing triumph and strength.
  • Reverse:

    • Displays a relief of a shield and fascine, accompanied by the embossed inscription: "THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION" and a list of Allied nations, including:
      • France, Italy, Serbia, Japan, Montenegro, Russia, Greece, Great Britain, Belgium, Brazil, Portugal, Rumania, and China.
  • Ribbon:

    • Rainbow-striped ribbon symbolizing the unity of the Allied nations.
    • Two clasps on the ribbon, embossed with:
      • "AISNE-MARNE" and "DEFENSIVE SECTOR", signifying campaigns in which the recipient served.
  • Dimensions:

    • 40.20 mm x 36.17 mm.
  • Significance:

    • Established in 1919, the World War I Victory Medal was awarded to U.S. military members who served honorably during World War I between April 6, 1917, and November 11, 1918, as well as for certain postwar expeditionary campaigns (e.g., European Russia and Siberia).

2. Commemorative Medal for United Service Corps Soldiers:

  • Obverse:

    • Depicts the face of a soldier in a helmet, symbolizing the dedication and sacrifice of U.S. soldiers.
    • Encircled by the inscription: "LEST WE FORGET Apr. 6. 1917 - Nov. 11. 1918", serving as a poignant reminder of the war’s impact.
  • Reverse:

    • Engraved with: "THE PRICE 268,204 CASUALTIES", honoring the sacrifice of U.S. soldiers who gave their lives during the war.
  • Dimensions:

    • 29.42 mm x 26.25 mm.
  • Ribbon:

    • The original ribbon accompanies the medal but is in very damaged condition. (Please refer to photos for detailed evaluation.)
