Historical Background
The Order of the Crown (Nishan-i-Taj) was originally established in 1913 by Shah Ahmad Shah Qajar before his official coronation. It served as the highest dynastic and state honor of the Qajar monarchy, recognizing distinguished service to the Persian Empire.
When the Pahlavi dynasty took power in 1925, Reza Shah Pahlavi preserved and reformed the order in 1938-39, adapting it to fit the new monarchy’s vision. It became one of highest state honors, second only to the Order of Pahlavi.
