This Legionnaire Degree Medal from World War II is a pristine example of the Legion of Merit, awarded for exceptionally meritorious conduct in service to the United States. Introduced in 1942, the Legion of Merit remains the only U.S. decoration designed with distinct ranks to align with international awards.

    • A central blue disc featuring 13 white stars, representing the original U.S. colonies.
    • The cross rests on a green laurel wreath, signifying honor, achievement, and victory.

    • Embossed with the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" around the banner.
    • The central circle bears the inscription "ANNUIT. COEPTIS. MDCCLXXXII":
      • "Annuit Coeptis": Translates to "He [God] has favored our undertakings", taken from the Great Seal of the United States.
      • MDCCLXXXII: Roman numerals denoting the year 1782, referencing the creation of the Great Seal.
